Jewellery care

wear

To help maintain the organic finish of your jewelry, avoid wearing it while using harsh cleaning agents, and during strenuous activities, such as working out, swimming, rock climbing, and gardening.

Protect rubies and sapphires from impact, especially from the side, as this may result in chips, breaks, and cracks.

maintenance

For all of our pieces, maintenance is the key to longevity.

Do not use at-home jewelry cleaners or abrasive cleansing agents as they can damage the patina.

Brass and copper are sulky metals, longing to be worn. If left off the body for too long will darken and become dull.

Clean bronze jewellery at home by using a small dish, filled with coca-cola. Leave for 15 minutes, rinse and if necessary rub gently with a soft bristle tooth brush to remove any residue.

For copper use ocean water, soak for an hour, rinse and again, gently shine with the bristles of a soft tooth brush.

It is best to protect bronze pieces from prolonged contact with water. Also, oxidation with the natural oils found on the skin may naturally occur (especially in rings). To maintain the appearance of your bronze pieces, wipe them with a lint-free cloth to remove any moisture.

repairs

With natural wear, you may notice matte finishes becoming shinier or silver lightening in color. If you would like to renew the original look of your piece, we will do so free of charge for the life of the piece.

Should your Alakai piece need resizing, or if it has incurred damage, please contact us. We will send you a Return Authorization Number so you can ship the item to us. Then we will send you a receipt and an estimated date of completion, which is usually around two weeks.

our commitment to sustainability

We strive to leave the smallest possible footprint in our wake. We employ these practices in our studio and the world around us. All of our stones are fossicked by hand and shovel.  The gold and silver we use is recycled and our bronze is ethically mined. All of our pieces are molded and finished by hand in our Australian studio.
